Breaking Android Episode 010

BreakingModern – Welcome to Episode 10 of Breaking Android. I’m your host, Mat Lee. This week, I have news on OnePlus, which has released its own alpha Lollipop ROM — based on stock Android 5.0. Sans Cyanogen. And you need to wipe your phone to get it. Check out the show to find out more — and read the show notes here, below the fold.

Breaking Android Broken Down

Android Profit Drop

First up, do you like analyst estimates? Me neither, but this is sort of interesting. Analyst Chetan Sharma estimates that global profits in the Android hardware market for 2014 were down by half from the prior year — the first year there has been any significant drop.

A lot of that is due to the big drop in profits at Samsung, the largest player in the Android market. Read more about it here on ReCode.

Galaxy Note 3 Update, KitKat 4.4.4

Next up, if you have a Galaxy Note 3 on AT&T you’re going to be happy soon. Your Android 4.4.4  KitKat update is now available. Thanks AT&T, we’re only on, like, Lollipop, but that’s OK. Better late than never I suppose. If you remember, the last update they got was back in March of 2014 and it was 4.4.2. Read more about it here on the Christian Post.

OnePlus Update

Engadget is reporting that, following a temporary ban in India, OnePlus has released its own alpha Lollipop ROM for the One based on stock Android 5.0 — sans Cyanogen. For now, the alpha software is only available as a download, and you’ll need to wipe your phone in order to get it.

That’s going to do it for this episode of Breaking Android. Follow me on your favorite social network and say hello. Also make sure to check out our weekly Android long-form podcast over at AttackoftheAndroids.com.
