Breaking Android Episode 22: Android News and Views

BreakingModern – Thanks for checking out episode 22 of Breaking Android. I’m your host, Mat Lee. On this episode I talk about the upcoming Google Play update, gas station displays by Google Now and voice commands that let you toggle key functions. Check out our Android news show and the detailed show notes below.

BreakingAndroid Broken Down

  • Android Authority has reported a new Google Play store update that contains small design changes. The update wastaken from Kirill Grouchnikov, an user interface engineer for Android. A while Google search bar will appear at the top of the Play Store, and the spinning arrow makes a return.
  • Android and Me has reported that Google Now will start to show gas stations along your driving route. This is a very handy addition to an already excellent search and answer feature of Android. Android and Me says:

“The feature is most accurate while navigating, but Google Now will make an educated guess at your route if you’re not navigating. For example, if you frequently visit the mall, Google Now will guess that you’re headed that way if you’re following the same route and will display gas stations accordingly.”

  • Android Police posted a PSA that says you can turn on your flashlight and toggle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with voice commands in Lollipop. The commands work on Kit Kat 4.4.4, but only bring you to the setting page, rather than turning the function on.

That’s going to do it for this episode of Breaking Android. Follow me on your favorite social network and say hello. Also make sure to check out our weekly Android long-form podcast over at AttackoftheAndroids.com.
