Eyewitness Photo: Monsoon Sunset

BreakingModern - When I think of Tucson, Ariz., a monsoon is the last thing that comes to mind. I guess I don’t know enough about Arizona. Take a look at this photo by Jesse Penaloza. It was taken with his HTC One (M7) smartphone for EyeWitness Photo. Here Penaloza shows the awesome grandeur of a blazing monsoon sunset in Tucson.

In my opinion, the shot is portentous yet serene. The clouds foreshadow a raging precipitation. Yet they look as if they’re dissipating with the sun’s rays. Not to mention, the beautiful purple haze that softens the thunderous scene.

Penaloza used only the stock camera on his M7 and touched up the photo with the stock Android editor. I think the camera did well capturing the dark foreground and consequently highlighting the beautiful sky. The sky remains the focal point and draws your eye to the center of the composition. I would have cropped the bottom slightly to give it a wider-angle look, but this is still a great shot as is. Well done, Jesse, and thanks for sharing! Check out more photos from his Instagram page.
