Photo of the Day: Puerto Rican Sun

BreakingModern — Sunrise and sunset are beautiful phenomena that some of us take for granted. Other than the parts of the world with extended sunshine or darkness, we all witness our fair share of the sun rising and setting. On today’s Eyewitness Photo, I have the pleasure of presenting a beautiful shot from Daniel Piraino.

Using his HTC One M8, Piraino snapped a beautiful low-light shot. It’s common knowledge that smartphone cameras have a hard time producing great shots in low light due to small sensors, but the M8 handles it like a champion. It’s okay, though. Piraino did great here.

Adjustments to the exposure bias and ISO can make a difference in how the shot comes out. Piraino processed his photo in Snapseed, the popular mobile photography editor. Snapseed offers filtering options called “HDR-Scape” which is what Piraino used in his photo. The filter didn’t allow the sunset to appear too bright and overpower the image. Instead, it produced a dramatic image with clouds and a nice light reflection on the beach. My only tip would be to try to adjust the splash of the waves in an editor such as Photoshop to give them more implied motion. Even so, this is a very pretty photograph.

Thanks for sharing, Daniel.
