Eyewitness Photo: Silhouettes Of Life

BreakingModern — We all know that, ideally, good smartphone photography requires great lighting. But sometimes we miss that perfectly shiny boat and end up with over-exposed sections or a silhouette. A silhouette in a photo can look awesome — like a cool picture of a surfer on his board silhouetted against the sea — or it can look terrible in other instances. This shot from Rick Takagi is an example of great silhouette photography.

Takagi used his HTC One M8 to capture this shot of a roller coaster in Disneyland. I’m a fan of the wide-aspect cropping he used here, but this shot isn’t about the cropping. It’s about the silhouette. In his shot, we immediately recognize the setting of the image, but it also sets a mood: One last ride and then it’s time to go home. I’m curious to know just how close he was to the Ferris wheel in the foreground — the angle really makes the photo. I appreciate you sharing this shot, Rick. Good stuff!
