100 Years of Workplace Technology [infographic]

BreakingModern — Our workplace technology is changing at a lightning-fast pace. Today you BYOD to work and you expect everything to fit and plug right in so you can start working. That wasn’t remotely true even 20 years ago.

Take a look at the infographic below, provided by Confessions of the Professions, and you can see how your iCloud computing is almost 100 years away from when the electric typewriter was invented. Standard office furniture outlasts technology by a longshot, too. It’s a new world, but everything came from somewhere.

A look back

In the early 1900s inventions like color photography, the electric typewriter and television started to revolutionize the workplace (and the world). In 1937 Alan Turing developed the concept of a computing machine. Things changed forever.

Fast forward to 2008 when open source cloud computing is introduced and our workplace becomes almost completely virtual. Where will be in another hundred years? Be wary – the machines and Bots in the office of the future just might try to squeeze you out.
