Photography Distractions [video]

BreakingModern — As photo editor of BreakingModern, I spend a lot of time examining different shots that will look great on our site. Depending on the article, the photo art has to have a way of enhancing what the author writes. I don’t want the photo to be a distraction. Even if the article is to show off a specific photograph, I prefer the shot not to have distractions in it. Why shoot a beautiful photograph of a rose and in the background have a small piece of litter? That litter is a distraction.

Check out this recent discussion from the Smartphone Photographers Community as we critique a particular photo. Are there any distractions in the photo? Does it look like a promotional photo? What would you do differently as the photographer?
