BreakingModern — Whether this is your first foray at cooking the big Thanksgiving dinner or you are a seasoned veteran of turkey-day cooking, there are plenty of apps that will help. Learn how to properly prepare the bird, find new ideas to freshen up your Thanksgiving menu and get guidance on that shopping list.
Planning the menu is the first step to creating a memorable Thanksgiving meal, and there are several apps that will not only spark your taste buds but give you full cooking instructions, too.
Butterball Cookbook Plus – Turkey Recipes, Plus Cooking Tools for Every Day Dinners
The first app comes from Butterball, the turkey experts. It’s the free (and slightly ill-named) Butterball Cookbook Plus – Turkey Recipes, Plus Cooking Tools for Every Day Dinners app. It’s available for Android on Google Play and Apple iOS. Butterball is known for its turkey hotline, which helps thousands of cooks each Thanksgiving, so it’s not surprising that this app has plenty of information for the first-time turkey chef. It is beautifully illustrated, lets you create favorites and make notes on each recipe, and provides tutorial videos.
Epicurious Recipes & Shopping List
This free app gives you access to Epicurious.com’s database of over 30,000 recipes. While not specifically created for Thanksgiving, there are plenty of turkey-day recipes. This app also has voice-activated controls for hands-free cooking. It allows you to save your favorite recipes and create a shopping-with-ease list. It’s available for Android on Google Play and Apple iOS.
Thanksgiving: A Bon Appétit Manual
Bon Appétit, one of the most highly respected cooking publications, brings you a Thanksgiving app manual that includes everything from cocktails and appetizers to turkey and decadent desserts. The app allows you to choose your menu item-by-item, or you can try its pre-defined menus that include a classic Thanksgiving menu, a Southern menu, an updated Modern menu and Bon Appétit’s 2014 Thanksgiving menu. This free app is available for Android on Google Play and Apple iOS.
Grocery iQ
After you’ve chosen your menu, you’ll have to make sure you have all the ingredients on hand. That’s where the free Grocery iQ app comes in. It’s available and free for Android on Google Play and Apple iOS. Not only can you easily create a grocery list by typing items, but you can add items by voice. You can sort your list and download coupons for items on your list. You can also scan barcodes of items you have on hand, a really useful feature. This is a full-featured grocery list app, perfect for keeping track of all those Thanksgiving dishes.
Using any or all of these apps for your Thanksgiving meal will make you really thankful to have such full-featured portable help and make your potentially hectic holiday more enjoyable.
