BreakingModern — Wunderlist has long struggled to stand out in a landscape that’s crowded with list-making apps. While the simple interface makes it fairly popular with users, that same simplicity limited Wunderlist. In response to customer feedback, the company has retooled its app, adding a handful of new features that make it both easier to use and giving it a functionality boost. Whether you’ve been using Wunderlist for a while or the entire app is new to you, here’s a look at the app’s newest features to help you decide if it’s the right list-making platform for your needs.
Organize Lists in Folders
One of Wunderlist’s biggest requests was the addition of folders. Before this update, a user was required to scroll through all of his lists — a task that became even more difficult once more lists were added. The addition of folders means that items can be grouped into categories. A frequent business traveler could group all of the lists he uses to organize and manage his trips, for instance, while a student could group lists into folders based on different courses.
In the new release of Wunderlist, a user can easily pull multiple lists into folders. To do so, just move a list over the top of the list with which you want to combine it, hold, and within moments a folder will be created. You can then name the folder by the category that fits it.
Add Items Quickly
Another welcome feature is the new Quick Add button. Simply click on the blue plus sign in the picture above and you’ll be given two options: New List and New To-Do. If you choose New To-Do, you’ll be prompted to either say or type your reminder. The item will be added to the list you specify. If you say, “Remind me to call Jim tomorrow at 9 a.m.,” this reminder will be added to your list.
But Wunderlist goes beyond simply tracking these types of items in a list. Through its notification feature, it will actually remind you the next day at 9 a.m. that you’re supposed to call Jim. You don’t even have to open Wunderlist (as long as your notification preferences are set correctly).
New Look
To Wunderlist loyalists, the app’s new look will be the most noticeable change. Wunderlist has added color-coding to its main screen to allow users to easily differentiate between the inbox, various folders and lists. However, Android users have complained that the new app borrows too much from iOS’s interface, especially with its thin iconography.
Another problem Android users may have is that some of the new features are limited to iOS users. Specifically the Quick Add feature, which works with iOS notifications and voice recognition. Hopefully Wunderlist’s developers will remedy this issue soon, since these updates were pushed for Android on Google Play, Apple iOS, Windows Phone, Windows, Chrome and Mac users.
If you’re looking for a handy to-do list app, Wunderlist is just the interface you’ll need to organize your life. While the ability to create folders is handy for any user, iOS owners will be especially pleased now that they have the ability to quickly add items and reminders.
