Breaking Android Episode 20: Android News and Views

BreakingModern – Thanks for checking out episode 20 of Breaking Android. I’m your host, Mat Lee. On this episode I talk about Lollipop update ETA’s, Amazon axing its Wallet app and, ah yes, we hear Android One is coming to the Philippines. Check out our Android news show and the detailed show notes below.

Breaking Android Broken Down

  • Know Your Mobile has a piece on when your Android device is going to see Lollipop. The updates are not up to the manufacturers, like Motorola or Samsung, but more about the carriers like Verizon, or Google in some cases. Here’s Motorola’s upgrade homepage, just enter your information to see when, and if, you’ll get the upgrade.
  • Android Community has reported that the Amazon wallet app is has been axed. It was only for gift cards and loyalty cards, but never had any actual bank account or credit card capabilities. And now it’s gone.
  • The Google Asia Pacific blog has reported that the Philippines will be the sixth country to join the Android One program. The Cherry One and MyPhone Uno go on sale sometime in the coming weeks. Other countries already in the program include India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. If you don’t know, Android One is the program that wants to bring good smartphones to developing nations.
