Cooking Dash 2016 (review)

BreakingModern — From Glu Games, the company that gave us Diner Dash (read my review here), comes an awesome spinoff game called Cooking Dash 2016. Our winsome restaurateur Flo is back but this time she’s in Hollywood and she’s trying to become famous.

The premise of Cooking Dash 2016 is simple: you’re a chef at various restaurants, and you’re attempting to prepare food for multiple people. You have to prep, cook, and serve the food (along with beverages on the more advanced levels).

One plus of Cooking Dash 2016 is that it has less tasks than Diner Dash, so it makes micromanaging a lot easier. For those who struggled in Diner Dash to keep up with everyone, the new game is a bit easier – although it still feels like you’re doing 20 different things at once.

Luckily, Cooking Dash 2016 keeps a lot of the cool mechanics found in the original game. There are a variety of restaurants to work at — each unlockable at a certain level. This means that you don’t have to beat every single level of a previous restaurant in order to move to a new one.

Each restaurant has it’s own theme and food. And this definitely helps alleviate the repetitive nature of the game. In advanced levels, players can redecorate their restaurants and upgrade their cooking tools. Along the way, they must master various recipes and food combinations.

Various VIP customers pop up to complicate matters. And some familiar characters make a welcome return in cameo appearances (such as Shakes McGee). The graphics remain the same as in Diner Dash. They’re not the awesome 3D renders I was hoping for, but they aren’t that bad.

Overall, I would give Cooking Dash 2016 an 8/10. Don’t get me wrong; it’s a good game. There are a nice variety of restaurants with cool ingredients, it involves less micromanaging, and it features a great upgrade system. However, it just lacks some cool customization features that would’ve made the game better and more personal. I would recommend it to anyone who’s a fan of cooking or food, or who have played Diner Dash before and would like something new. Cooking Dash 2016 is free to download for Android on Google Play and Apple iOS.
