BreakingModern — Instagram, in my opinion, has a certain time and place in smartphone photography. Though I’m an advocate for other photography apps such as Snapseed or Lapse It, I do have an Instagram account which I use a few times a week. I admit there are some instances where Instagram made my quick, candid shot come out with more-enhanced details and color. This pretty Instagram photograph Afnan Qamar of HTC Elevate took with his HTC One M8 shows how the app can shine.
First of all, Afnan isn’t driving on the wrong side of the road. This photo was taken in India. Secondly, I can’t confirm or deny that he’s the driver in this shot. Hopefully there’s no “driving and shooting” going on. At any rate, this turned out to be a really nice shot with his M8.
Qamar mentioned that he used Instagram to do the slight touchup in this photo and added the Hefe filter to finish the processing. I don’t love how Instagram forces photos into a square crop, but it works in this case. If it were in an aspect ratio closer to 16:9, you probably wouldn’t have the same depth and distance. The large dark area in the lower third of the photo where you can barely see the road ahead gives the photo that slightest bit of perspective that makes it work.
This is a nice shot, Afnan! Thank you for emailing it to me. Be sure to take a look at Afnan’s other photos on Instagram.
