BreakingModernInternational CES always brings out a host of exciting technology announcements, and this week has been a busy one for HTC. Tuesday saw the release of the new Desire 826 smartphone, and Wednesday commenced the unveiling of a partnership between Under Armour and HTC. HTC has also launched a rewards program, which offers free goodies like RE cameras, all week in Las Vegas.

This morning the company announced a new feature for the RE camera: live streaming via YouTube.

RE Life

HTC launched the RE camera late last year amid a sea of evolving camera-based technology. The RE camera looks like a periscope and is aimed at making social photography and videos easy and fun. Featuring a 16mp sensor with HD video capability, 1080p resolution, a 146-degree wide-angle lens, expandable storage via a MicroSD card and apps for both Android and iOS. HTC has made the camera quite accessible.

The ability to now stream live via YouTube is another social feature. The RE camera can connect directly to a user’s YouTube channel and send a broadcast link to anyone, letting them watch real-time or after the fact.

HTC will enable this feature for Android on Jan. 9th through an update to the RE app in the Google Play store. The iOS update will come later in Q1 2015.

The HTC statement says:

“Any live footage you wish to share is transmitted directly from RE to your smartphone, which then sends your broadcast to your YouTube channel. Invite people to view the event by sending your broadcast link to tune in via SMS or social networks. Even if they can’t watch it live, the link will continue to be active, even after the broadcast ends.”
