EyeWitness Photo: Depth of Field

BreakingModern — Statement: “There’s no way to take a great photo of the sun setting in the Florida Keys using a smartphone.” False! The truth is you don’t have to have a DSLR or point-and-shoot camera to pull off a great sunset shot. Daniel Piraino proves it with his HTC One M8 and keen photography skills.

This isn’t your typical 16:9 aspect ratio seen in most photographs. Piraino shot this in portrait mode — and it works! I love how the horizon line splits the image perfectly in half. I also enjoy how he shows depth and distance in this shot by having the sun off center. The sun’s light is working magic with the water — warm, rosy hues tint the waves and the clouds above. Piraino didn’t do any post editing or processing with this shot. Beautifully done.

What pictures are you capturing with your HTC smartphone? Send them over to me (in a URL preferably) via [email protected]. You may get featured in our EyeWitness Photo column. Be sure to mention your HTC smartphone model and any camera apps or mobile photo editing apps used.
